Prayers for steady hands and a sharp mind

We went to visit Par this morning and he was cuddled up next to his little blue bunny. His little hand was exploring the bunny's ear. They put it next to him to give him something to grab because he keeps pulling on his tubes. His numbers were fair--they were okay while we were there but they haven't been exactly where we'd like them. His blood gases haven't been great either--but again, this is all part of the weaning process.

That being said, Par's nurse called us and told us Dr. Kays has scheduled Par's repair surgery for 6:00pm tonight--I'd say 3 hours warning is pretty good. Because he is so fragile at this point, they will do the surgery in the NICU on the bed where he is now.

Rusty and I ask that you will pray with us at 6pm as Par has his surgery--we ask God to give Dr. Kays steady hands and a sharp mind to make the best decisions throughout the surgery. Thankfully, we know the repair is fairly straight forward--we ask that there will be no surprises and that everything will fit where it needs to go. We put all of our trust into God's timing and we feel confident that Par is ready for his surgery. The surgery should last about 3 hours--we will update the blog as soon as Dr. Kays comes out to let us know how it went. Thank you for your prayers and comforting words of encouragement.

UPDATE (10:15)

Thank you for all of your prayers! Rusty and I feel so blessed to have such great friends and family. Dr. Kays was held up in surgery and didn't get started until 9:15PM. The nurse just stepped out to say that he is just starting to make the incision (10:15). We believe this is part of the 3 hours--so hopefully it is just 2 more hours. Par got to hug his blue bunny while we told him all about how Dr. Kays is going to fix him and he is going to feel so much better. He opened his beautiful eyes--so we feel confident that he understands what we said. We made him promise to be strong for us.

They let us stay with him right up until the surgery. They had to reposition him a bit--after being SO DELICATE with him for the past week it was a little difficult to watch them handle him so much--but he seemed to tolerate it well. We will update the blog as soon as we hear ANYTHING. Here is a picture of Baby Par and Famous Dr. Kays getting ready to go into surgery--may God bless them both.

I just wanted to say that I am praying for you also and for Dr. Kays as well. He's an amazing surgeon, Par is in wonderful hands. What an amazing blog you have here - I felt as if I was there with you when I was reading it. Par is blessed with great parents and a great medical team - and so many people praying for him.

If there is anything that CHERUBS can do to help, please let us know!
