Par is Wide Awake!

Our little Par has been shunting a good bit which causes his sat numbers to be low—possibly because Dr. Kays discontinued the hypertension medicine before his surgery and possibly because he just had major surgery—either way, Dr. Kays doesn’t seem terribly concerned about it—or better, I’m sure he is concerned, but he hasn’t changed any of his setting except to turn down his oxygen to 65—so we are going to try and remain calm about it. Before, these numbers were a major part of the decision of whether or not to go on ECMO—it is hard for us to change gears and not be concerned about the numbers—but no sense in worrying about something that isn’t the major issue right now. Also, his nurse noticed that even though his numbers are low, they are better when he is awake--so Dr. Kays ordered that his sedation be decreased.

Dr. Kays is still watching his abdomen. It looks even better today. Par was wide awake most of the time that we visited him today-it was wonderful. He woke up for his daddy this morning when we first went and then after lunch he was wide awake when Boo and I sat with him. It felt so good to sit next to him and interact with his innocent little eyes. He seems mesmerized by all the lights blinking around him. He only “cried” a couple of times when I was there today—but all I had to do was put my hand on his head and one on his foot and he would calm down immediately—OH! I just love being his mother!

Baby Jonathan who is right next to Par has been having a rough time—please lift him up in prayer. He is back on ECMO and is having his repair surgery tomorrow morning at 8am. I spoke to his parents tonight—they seem drained so please pray for them to get a peaceful nights’ sleep so they can be 100% tomorrow. Lord, I ask that you will lay you hands on Chris and Jasmine and calm their hearts and give them a peace about their baby boy. We ask that you will give Dr. Kays the rest he needs and a clear mind to repair baby Jonathan’s hernia. We know you are the great physician and we trust in your plan for this child of yours. Amen.

Also, please continue to pray for Baby Ella as she continues in her recovery and faces new obstacles. Pray that her parents will have a peace about any decisions they make for their precious baby.

Again and again I find myself in disbelief that God has given us this little baby boy. We look forward to seeing him tomorrow! Thank you for your prayers, as always—we know they are the fuel that keeps us going.
Love, Liz, Rusty & Par
